Remark/Report a remark

9–12 June 2016
Agora Culture Centre, Serbska 5a

An international festival presenting the most important phenomena and trends in improvisation art. The programme of the AOI encompasses concerts and performances by the masters of their arts, the CREATIONS competition for young artists, as well as improvisation workshops, film screenings and an exhibition. In the past, many renowned artists and groups performed at the festival, including the Matthew Shipp Trio, John Butcher and the William Parker Quartet.

The project presents and supports the most valuable phenomena and trends of the Polish and foreign improvisation scene, emphasising its diversity, openness to change and experiments. The #AOI is not only a musical project, as its programme also covers dance, theatre and performance art based on improvisation. Among the concerts and performances by the masters of the genre, jam sessions, improvisation workshops and film screenings, the CREATIONS / CLASH review of young improvisers, always present on the agenda, stands out as one of the most important elements of the festival.
The Creations / Clash competition is aimed at improvising artists, both amateurs and professionals, soloists and bands. During the review, the competitors must improvise with a new person, picked at random by the jury. Very often those artistic clashes result in outstanding duets, and the performance during the #CREATIONS competition becomes an impulse prompting the artists to collaborate in the future.
