At the halfway point of the ECoC 2016 Closing Weekend

We are currently at the halfway point of the unique Closing Weekend of the ECoC 2016 Programme in Wrocław, and since Thursday the residents and the tourists have been coming in large numbers to the events offered in the city. The first concerts of the WROsound festival, the Friendship Festival and the première of Il Trovatore are already a history, while the offerings of the Open Art Days and the ECoC cuisine are still available for everyone. The Centennial Hall - the epicentre of this weekend’s events - is also teeming with culture, with the pre-release show of The Sky Web performance already having taken place and the official première being just around the corner, on Saturday evening. On Sunday, we are going to meet during various concerts at the NFM, Capitol and - once again - at the Centennial Hall, this time to hear the Sound Play, featuring Małgorzata Foremniak, Robert Więckiewicz and Arkadiusz Jakubik.

THE SKY WEB: ON-LINE BROADCAST
(the broadcast will start at around 7:00 p.m.)

On Thursday, we witnessed the Friendship Festival - the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the OCN band from Wrocław and the silent concert of We Draw A opening the 8th edition of WROsound. Friday welcomed us with concerts of more bands from the borderline of alternative music, including Pink Freud, as well as the start of the ECoC cuisine project (December 15-18), which gives everyone the opportunity to taste dishes such as the Grandpa Karol’s egg paste, the Emperor’s Treat, keselica with potatoes and the Silesian Heaven in 14 outstanding restaurants and cafes in the city. The price of each dish will be no higher than 20.16 PLN! Friday was also the first day of the Open Art Days (December 16-18), which enable the lovers of visual arts to visit the most outstanding exhibitions in the city - free of charge or with a symbolic admission fee. The Zajezdnia History Centre, the Gallery at the Main Railway Station, the Museum of Architecture, the National Museum and the newly opened Four Domes Pavilion will welcome the visitors with open arms. The Christmas atmosphere was introduced by the Parade of Lviv Carollers, and an impressive illumination decorated the Dunikowski Boulevard. Those who missed it will also have an opportunity to see the parade and walk on the Path of Light on Saturday and Sunday.

At the same time, the first viewers could see the pre-release show of The Sky Web, directed by Chris Baldwin - a fantastic light and sound performance, featuring dozens of artists, many of whom live in Wrocław. Concurrently the Wrocław Opera hosted the première of Il Trovatore, which opens the new season, and the upcoming performances will take place on December 17 and 18 at 7:00 p.m. The Main Railway Station will host Teatr Snów from Gdańsk, presenting their unique story of a man who walked on stilts. The group is also going to repeat the performance on the next day.

Additionally, today at 8:00 p.m. the audience will also have the opportunity to take part in the next concert of the 8th edition of WROsound festival, as well as the Bubble, bubble performance, featuring exercises inspired by the new language referring to the communication of dolphins. The last event of the day will be the official Gala, summing up the year of the European Capital of Culture at the Centennial Hall, followed by the largest Silent Disco in Europe at 10:30 p.m. - the party will be started by the  NOS – Nogaś. Obszańska. Szydłowska - Collective. 2300 pairs of headphones will be ready and waiting for you.

On the last day we encourage you to see Shadows - the exhibition of visual works by French artist Mathilde Lavenne, who was interested with the issue of the “exchange” of the German population with the Polish one in Wrocław. The exhibition will be open in Pokoyhof Passage (Św. Antoniego 2-4) from December 17 to December 29. At 4:00 p.m. the Centennial Hall will also host the stars of cinema and theatre, taking part in the unique Sound Play. The works by Sławomir Mrożek will be read aloud - but for the first time with active participation of the audience - by Małgorzata Foremniak, Arkadiusz Jakubik and Robert Więckiewicz. During that time, the Capitol Musical Theatre will host the concert of the Wrocław Commenting Choir with their final concert.

At 4:30 p.m. you will have the opportunity to join the colourful parade of the Puppet Clinic Theatre’s Flying Circus, organised by the artists of the phenomenal Puppet Clinic Theatre. The parade will go from Świdnicka Street to the University of Wrocław building. At 6:00 p.m. the Samoróbka workshop group will sum up their hard work and several months spent on constructing experimental instruments by giving a special concert. Also at 6:00 p.m. the NFM Choir will celebrate their 10th anniversary with the slogan “Tones of the sounds - colours of the rainbow”.
