European Literature Night 2016

23 April 2016, 19.00-24.00
Diffrent places in Wroclaw
Entrance free

The European Literature Night has been running for many years in various European cities; the project presents the works of writes from different countries to a wide audience and popularizes reading as well as enhances mutual
cultural awareness. A special edition of the European Literature Night in Wrocław is going to take place on 23 April as part of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016.

The event, which unfolds on the UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day, is going to attract international audience this year and all the texts that are going to be read out will also be displayed in the English language. The places where readings are going to be held are extraordinary as well – among others, the Muzeum Architektury/Museum of Architecture - Wroclaw-PL – Wrocław-PL in the fifteenth-century Bernardine complex in Wrocław or the former monastery Teatr Pieśń Kozła / Song of the Goat Theatre. For example, in the Townhouse, 25 Rynek – the reading is going to take place as part of the exhibition Ukrajins’kyj Zriz: Przeobrażenia | Miesiąc Lwowski Europejskiej Stolicy Kultury Wrocław 2016 | The Lviv Month of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016.
The main protagonist of this year's edition is also exceptional: and that is William Shakespeare. On 23 April 2016, we will be celebrating the 400th anniversary of his death and thus – in an attempt to become part of a broad spectrum of events devoted to Shakespeare's works, which are being organized all over the world – the European Literature Night will be focused entirety on his works. Timeless monologues, lyric sonnets, and clever dialogues will be presented to the public as interpretations by well-known actors – among them: Jan Nowicki, Magdalena Cielecka, Olga Bołądź, and others. The names of other actors will be revealed in the coming days.

When the readings are over, you are welcome to witness a DJ battle between Agnieszka Szydłowska and Michał Nogaś under the banner BOOK IS A DJ! SZYDŁOWSKA/NOGAŚ i goście.
