Giuseppe Verdi’s Il Trovatore

Il Trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi is the first premiere of the Wrocław Opera in the 2016/17 season. The opera tells a classic story of a romantic triangle – two lovers, Leonora and Manrico, and Count di Luna, jealous of their affection. The performance was prepared in collaboration with the Latvian National Opera. Riga was the European Capital of Culture 2014, in the same year Il Trovatore premiered on the stage of the Latvian National Opera.

Thus, the presentation of Verdi’s masterpiece by Wrocław Opera, which is a part of the ECoC event calendar will serve the role of a metaphorical piece that binds both cities together. The Premiere in Wrocław Opera: Giuseppe Verdi’s Il Trovatore is directed by Andrejs Žagars – one of the most interesting figures in contemporary theatre. For over 20 years, he served as the executive director of the Latvian National Opera, and during his term the theatre strengthened its international standing.

The Wrocław Opera Orchestra will be led by its current director, Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski. The roles of Count di Luna, Leonora and Manrico will feature the soloists of the Wrocław Opera, as well as world-famous opera stars.
