GÖRLITZER ART: contemporary art festival in Görlitz

An enormous white figure at a roundabout, a colourful herd of fanciful creatures wandering through the town, a high tower made of steel pipes interacting with historic towers of the town, or a shining symbol on the largest square in the town centre – for one year, these and other installations will be enriching the public space of Görlitz. This remarkable outdoor exhibition open from 1 April 2016 to 9 April 2017 is part of the programme of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016 as a joint project of Görlitz and Wrocław, with the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław as the curator.

Therefore, the grand opening of the exhibition will be performed on 1 April 2016 at 2:00 pm at Wilhelmsplatz by Siegfried Deinege, Senior Mayor of Görlitz, Adam Grehl, Deputy Mayor of Wrocław, and Professor Piotr Kielan, Rector of the Wrocław Academy of Art and Design, in the presence of the artists participating in the project and guests from Poland and Germany. Regardless of the weather, all guests will have the opportunity to admire the artistic installations during bus rides.

For the first time, contemporary art will appear on the streets and squares of Görlitz with such intensity and diversity of artistic works and means of expression. Wrocław artists selected in the competition have proposed their ideas for artistic intervention in the public space for specific places located in Görlitz. The artists comprise renowned authors as well as students of the Wrocław Academy of Art and Design who, for the first time, have the opportunity to implement their own projects in the public space, and as it happens, abroad. As a result, a mixture of styles and forms was created - witty, controversial installations and objects provoking though and discussion. They are the following (the first letters of German names are pictograms on the attached map).
