Marilyn Monroe in photographs. Exhibition in Domek Miedziorytnika

Beginning February 17, Domek Miedziorytnika will be hosting an exhibition of original photographs taken by Milton H. Greene on the set of the film “Bus Stop” starring Marilyn Monroe. It is free of charge and will last until March 24.

“Bus Stop”
The 1956 drama directed by Joshua Logan for 20th Century Fox and based on two plays by William Inge stars Marilyn Monroe as Cherie, a night club singer. Her main screen partner is Donald Patrick Murray, whose portrayal of the young cowboy Bo Decker earned him the Academy Award Nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

The photographs come from a collection of over 3,000 original works by Milton H. Greene purchased by Wrocław. A definite majority of the photographs are unquestionably works of art, which document the history of world photography. The collection encompasses both classical and innovative prints, including some of the first digitally printed photographs. Their quality, color, and saturation are excellent. These classical black and white photographs by Milton H. Greene show depth in color, from white through a vast gamut of greyness to black, which characterises the work of the best photographers in the world.

The collection can be divided into a few distinct themes, which could form a basis for many separate exhibitions. There are social photographs and photojournalistic works, as well as photos from spectacles and films. There are also portraits of actors, family portraits, nature photographs and photos from Milton Greene’s private life.

The exhibition is run in cooperation with the collection’s owner: the Centennial Hall in Wrocław. It is the third time that this unique collection will be shown. In addition, lesser known photographs of Marilyn Monroe, including photographs from on set and off, will be presented.

Two previous exhibitions have proved that good photography, regardless of the subject matter, can be successful. In the third exhibition, the popular film motif has been expressed by a series of masterpieces of photography.
