New Year’s Eve in Wrocław – useful information

On December 31 join Sylwester Wrocławski for a great celebration. The Market Square will be turned into a giant club with two stages, hosting artists from the capital of Lower Silesia. It will be a perfect opportunity to celebrate the end of 2016 – the year of the European Capital of Culture in Wrocław – and welcome the upcoming 2017!

Mr. Sylwester Wrocławski will be the star of this great concert. The alias hides great artists connected with Wrocław, who are going to give a great New Year’s Eve concert, alternating between the two stages.

The stage on the Pigeon Square is the BRAIN of Sylwester Wrocławski, featuring: FrühstückMILOOPACapitol Musical Theatre and L.U.C with Rebel Babel Ensemble. On the stage near the Salt Square – the HEART of Sylwester Wrocławski – we are going to see: Blade LokiMikromusic, Alicja Janosz and her Guests, Mesajah and Girls on Fire. The programme will be concluded by the Great Gong Concert, the largest concert of dozens of enormous Tibetan gongs in Poland.

The square, enclosed from all sides ,will create a space in which the audience will be surrounded by images. Large projection screens will be installed as backgrounds for each stage, and the townhouses’ walls will be used by VJs for displaying visualisations and music videos and creating live images.

Useful information
The Market Square will be open from 6:00 p.m., the event will start at 6:20 p.m.

The event area
The New Year’s Eve will take place on the Pigeon Square between two stages – one on the southern side and one on the northern side. The audience zone between the stages will be enclosed and four entrances will be available.

NOTE: changes in traffic organisation around the Market Square! On December 31 and January 1, the traffic on the streets surrounding the event will be limited:

 Gepperta Street – no entry from Kazimierza Wielkiego Street and closed to traffic near the Salt Square (excluding the organiser, product delivery and services); Kurzy Targ Street will be closed from Szewska Street. The limitations will be in place until 5:00 a.m. on January 1.

A giant screen will be installed near the monument of Aleksander Fredro on the Market Square and in the gastronomic zone on the Salt Square (alcohol will not be sold).

Toilets will be placed in Przejście Garncarskie and Salt Square (Plac Solny), a medical point for the participants of the event will be located in the Cloth Hall, with a rescue path running along Kurzy Targ Street.

Technical facilities will be located in the areas permanently closed to traffic on the eastern side of the salt Square and on Świętego Mikołaja Street (from the “Jaś i Małgosia” townhouses to the intersection with Kiełbaśnicza Street).

The New Year’s Eve celebrations will play out not only on the two stages, but also on the façades of townhouses surrounding the event. The buildings on the Market Square will be turned into giant screens and unique visualisations will be showed to the audience.

Entrance for persons with disabilities
Special zones for persons with disabilities will be located near both stages, right next to the western frontage of Market Square townhouses.

During the New Year’s Eve in Wrocław, all traffic laws and regulations apply as on any other day. There will be no special car park in the centre.

On December 31, all trams and buses will run according to Saturday timetables. Additional buses will be launched on the following routes:

*243 (Petrusewicza – Pilczyce) at 1:15 a.m.
*253 (Petrusewicza – Leśnica) at 0:45 a.m. and 1:45 a.m.,
*253 (Petrusewicza – Bartoszowice) at 1:50 a.m.,
*255 (Petrusewicza – Gaj-pętla) at 0:45 a.m. and 1:15 a.m.,
*255 (Petrusewicza – Sępolno) at 1:15 a.m..

Rules of participation
There are no age limits for participating in the event. Bottles, alcoholic beverages, sharp and dangerous objects (e.g. knives), balaclavas, pyrotechnical materials and more are prohibited – the full list can be found in the rules at and The event will be supervised by security contractors collaborating with the security forces such as Police and Fire Brigade.

Wirtualna Polska broadcast

The New Year’s Eve celebrations in Wrocław will be broadcast by Wirtualna Polska TV. "Our broadcast will alternate between the two concert stages and our reporters at the mobile studio. The event will be presented live in WP television at Wirtualna Polska home page, as well as the WP channel available in digital terrestrial TV (MUX8) and in selected cable networks”, said Wojciech Pawlak, CEO of WP TV. The broadcast will start at 7:00 p.m. and will run until 1:00 a.m. on New Year.

The New Year’s Eve celebration will be the official ending of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016, but that does not mean that the ECoC will end there and then. The city will remain the capital of culture even after midnight – in 2017, 18, 19... Since as you could see throughout all of the 12 months of 2016, Wrocław is truly a city of culture. A European Capital of Culture. And it will always be one – thanks to its residents.
