Tamborrada

20 January 2016, 11:00 AM
Hala Orbita
An event for cultural and educational establishments in and around Wrocław, participation limited only to registered guests

On 20 January 2016 the San Sebastian March sounded in Wrocław. In this symbolic way children and youth from Wrocław and the Wrocław Agglomeration joined the celebration of Tamborrada – the feast day of the patron saint of the Basque city of Donostia (San Sebastian), which also holds the title of the European Capital of Culture 2016.

The Tamborrada in Wrocław managed to attract 3000 participants and Hala Orbita was packed. Children and youth from 81 various educational establishments, from kindergartens to secondary schools, were in the stands. Every single one of them had drums, snare drums, wooden sticks and other percussion instruments, which they promptly used to play the San Sebastian March and "WrocLove" – a song about the city. Children and youth from local cultural centres, including Youth Cultural Centre Fabryczna, Youth Cultural Centre Krzyki, Youth Cultural Centre Śródmieście, Children and Youth Cultural Education Centre and Municipal Culture Centre in Długołęka encouraged everyone to join the fun from platforms and from the court. Children’s bands – KrzyKaśki and Szalone Dzieciaki from the Destination Adventure Foundation [Fundacja Kierunek Przygoda] and children’s choirs of Elementary School no. 17 – Bel Canto and Śpiewające Nutki sung, played and danced on the platforms set up on both sides of the stage. The Police and Army Orchestra, along with majorettes from Trzebnica and the Wrocławska Stepownia group provided a great and colourful addition to the Wrocław Tamborrada.
Everyone had fun, and what is more, people celebrating the Tamborrada in San Sebastian could join us. Thanks to a satellite connection, the young Basques watched the Wrocław event, and people gathered in Hala Orbita could observe the Plaza de la Constitución in Donostia.

The celebrations of both Tamborradas were concluded by playing and singing the San Sebastian March – at noon the hymn sounded both in Wrocław and in Donostia.

We invite you to re-watch the internet broadcast of the event.
