The European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016 announces the official beginning of a golden autumn in culture and invites you to dozens of music, film, literature, architecture, visual arts and theatre events. Join us for the second week of October with the ECoC events!

[THEATRE] “The Scattered Card Index” Tadeusz Różewicz
7-10 October 2016

Mądzik, Kierc, Gordon, Wycichowska – these are just some of the artists, who will appear during the Scattered Card Index Festival, devoted to Tadeusz Różewicz. The Scattered Card Index Festival means four days filled with theatrical experiences. We want to explore and capture the poetics of Tadeusz Różewicz and help everyone understand his concept of theatre. It became a basis not only for the plays, presented during the festival, since the artists in their presentations refer to all of the Poet’s creations.

[LITERATURE] International Short Story Festival
6-9 October 2016

“The History of Future” will be the theme of the 12th edition of the festival devoted to short prose. On October 6-9 the audience will have an opportunity to meet authors from Israel, Finland, Austria, Switzerland and other countries.

[LITERATURE] The 6th Bruno Schulz Festival
10-16 October 2016

The 5th edition of the Bruno Schulz. Festival will take place in Wrocław on October 10-16.  This year’s edition is a part of the European Capital of Culture and UNESCO World Book Capital Wrocław 2016 literary programme. For three years now, the Festival has been supporting the ANGELUS Central European Literary Award, and the award ceremony will take place on October 15.

[ARCHITECTURE] Big A: a lecture by Hani Rashid
10 October at 6:00 p.m.

Join us for another lecture, taking place as part of the BIG A_SPACE FOR BEAUTY: NATURE-SOCIETY-ARCHITECTURE cycle, spanning the entire year, organised by the Wrocław Branch of the Association of Polish Architects (SARP). The lecture titled Future Today will be presented by HANI RASHID (Asymptote Architecture/USA). It will take place on October 10 (Monday) at 6:00 p.m. at the Auditorium Hall of the Wrocław Congress Centre at Centennial Hall (Wystawowa 1).

[ARCHITECTURE] Lower Silesian Festival of Architecture DoFA
7-14 October 2016

The Lower Silesian Festival of Architecture DoFA was initiated by SARP Wrocław in 2011 as an annual event. DoFA comprises events of interdisciplinary nature, aimed at the broad audiences, including exhibitions of competition entries, topical exhibitions, lectures and public debates with experts, as well as seminars and visits to interesting objects in the selected cities in Lower Silesia and the city of Wrocław. Additionally, the organisers also prepared film screenings, concerts, workshops for children and youth, as well as performances in public space and others.

6-9 October 2016
The ZONES OF CONTACT 2016 project, prepared by the Wrocław Contemporary Theatre as part of the European Capital of Culture 2016 programme comprises co-productions, as well as original creations based on texts by Helmut Kajzar, Tymoteusz Karpowicz and Tadeusz Różewicz, as well as drama competition and presentation of the latest plays by Polish actors, almost directly after their creation.

MUSICAL MEETINGS OF CULTURES H. J. Botor Symfonia Ubi Caritas / Ubi Caritas Symphony – premiere performance
A part of the festival, the motto of which – “peace and good through music”, refers to the thought of St. Francis of Assisi, the ambassador of peace, and to the philosophy of striving for good through the beauty of music and interiors.

Thanks to the "1000 years of music in Wrocław" series the audience has an opportunity to listen to the early music from Wrocław, which to date remains present in the city's culture. The next concert in the series is titled “In Alps”.

[ARCHITECTURE] Lviv, 24 June 1937 exhibition
29 September – 20 November 2016
What did Lviv look like just before the outbreak of World War II? What really happen on June 24, 1937? Why wasn’t there an exhibition dedicated to Modernism in Lviv and the creators from the city yet? Starting on September 29, one of the most important events of the ECoC Wrocław 2016 architecture programme will start at the Museum of Architecture – an exhibition dedicated to the Modernist architecture and urban design of Lviv.

[FILM] European Film Awards Review
6 September –  30 December
In 1988, Ingmar Bergman founded the European Film Academy. Since then, the institution, which focuses on popularising the European cinematography around the globe, has been giving out its own annual awards for the best creators. In 2016, Wrocław – the European Capital of Culture 2016 – will host the 29th European Film Awards Ceremony. On this occasion, join us at the New Horizons Art House Cinema for the “European Film Awards” review between 6 September and 30 December.

[∞] "BODY” Exhibition

Our present is filled with incessant thinking about the future, planning, exceeding boundaries, striving towards perfection, longevity and becoming a superhuman. “BODY” focuses on the axis of the BODY, its contemporary perception, what it means to us, what do we let it to do, how do we modify it and change its properties, what fascinates us about it.

[∞] protoCIAŁO: SEE me / ZOBACZ

The “protoCIAŁO” project is a dancing activity, celebrating individuality and including able-bodied dancers, as well as persons with limited mobility, blind and visually impaired, as well as seniors, into creative activities. The city of future is just around the corner. After all, even now there are efforts to make our living places friendly not only for the able-bodied, but also for those with limited mobility.

[VISUAL ARTS] Summer Rental. Marx’s collection with a visit in Wrocław

The works by Warhol, Rauschenberg, Beuys, Kiefer and many more outstanding contemporary artists will be available in Wrocław – starting in August, they will be displayed in the Four Domes Pavilion. It is one of the most important exhibitions organised as part of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016 event programme.

[VISUAL ARTS] Museum of Dreams

How to combine theatre with a museum? Well, the artists have their methods. The Museum of Dreams is a play comprising eight performances, presented in the interiors of the National Museum in Wrocław, near some of the works of art. Every scene is a result of permeation of painting, literature, theatre, dance and music.

[VISUAL ARTS] All-year project
Ongoing exhibition "binaryWaves" by the LAb[au] group
LAb[au] is an artistic trio from Brussels, formed by Manuel Abendroth, Jérôme Decock i Els Vermang. Their works combine characteristics of conceptual art, systems art and concrete art – updated through the use of contemporary materials, techniques and formats.

[VISUAL ARTS] Kuba Bąkowski's exhibition as part of "Invasion” – All-year project
Two works by Kuba Bąkowski will be displayed as part of a project: "Invasion of the Wroclaw Airport"; the artist seeks to present the humanistic dimension of science; his works have already been displayed in many cities including Moscow, Vienna, and New York. The artist combines performance and photography and the only traces of the happenings he creates are single shots presented in light boxes.

[MUSIC] Interactive Sound Passage: Spatial Experience of Wrocław History
7.05. – 26.10.
The Passage is a corridor with lighting and sound, dedicated to the memory of old music and sounds of Wrocław. The city was always perceived as a place of cultural exchange because of its rich past and its location on the borderline between several countries. The installation will comprise a collection of sounds recalling the history of Wrocław. The visitors will be able to listen and interact with them while going through the tunnel.

[VISUAL ARTS] Stanisław Dróżdż. Text Paths.
Stanisław Dróżdż. Text Paths is a poetic and visual project, carried out in the public space of Wrocław. Its main goal is to acquaint the wide audience with the art and creations of Stanisław Dróżdż, a poet, artist and animator of the Polish branch of the concrete poetry movement, who was connected with Wrocław. The opening will take place on September 6 at the Proza club in Wrocław (Przejście Garncarskie 2).
