Lublin – a city, where the greatest discoveries are born – a lecture by Prof. Andrzej Kokowski
24.05 at 1:00 p.m.
Lublin is a special place for archaeology, and the local archaeology can also be said to be special. It discovers not only the mysteries of the city’s past, but also successfully unearths the most ancient history of the region. In the world, it is said that Lublin is a place where great discoveries are born. Many of them became the canon of knowledge about European antiquity, such as the Goth women, who were decapitated before being buried. The discoveries of enthralling treasures in Grody Czerwieńskie gave Polish archaeology the only European title of Archaeological Discovery of the Year in National Geographic’s plebiscite.

Great Stars in the NFM- London Symphony Orchestra

25.05.2016, at 8:00 p.m., National Forum of Music

It is known that the London Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Antonio Pappano, the music director for the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. The ensemble from London remains one of the top-rated symphonic orchestras of the world (in the Gramophone magazine ranking, right behind Wiener Philharmoniker). Established in 1904 and currently led by Valery Gergiev from Russia, the ensemble greatly contributes not only to the history of performances of great symphonic pieces, but also has a strong influence on film music – the LSO recorded soundtracks for key blockbusters of the recent years – Star Wars, Braveheart and Harry Potter. Even Agnieszka Holland decided to cooperate with the musicians while making Copying Beethoven, with music of Antoni Łazarkiewicz.  In Wrocław, they will play Gustav Mahler’s 6th Symphony.

Resistance – performance by Svea Duwe

28.05.2016 at 4:00 p.m., Świdnicka (next to the side entrance to BARBARA: infopoint / cafe / culture)

The project by Svea Duwe – a German artist – is a joint performance, which refers to the symbolic nature of water.

A group of over a dozen dancers, moving around with bottles tied to their bodies will reflect the power of water with their movements – the abruptness of waves and tides, currents and their energy. The artist wants to point out the complexity of the processes taking place in the contemporary society. The performance might serve as a metaphor to the situation, where we take responsibility for someone or something, but as time passes, it starts to be inconvenient to us.
