The Janusz A. Zajdel Award has been presented!

The statuettes for the best Polish short story and the best fantasy and science fiction novel of 2015 went to Robert M. Wegner. The writer managed to repeat his feat from three years ago, when he also won the Award in both categories. He thus went down in history as the first author, who managed to win both distinctions twice.

The official Janusz A. Zajdel Literary Award of Polish Fandom Gala took place during Polcon - Euroconference, organised this year as part of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016 event programme. Lovers of fantasy and science fiction met the nominated writers in the Auditorium Hall of the Wrocław Congress Centre. The results of the vote were announced by the honorary patron of the award, Jadwiga Zajdel, who did not try to hide her delight with the double victory of Robert M. Wegner. The only writer, who can also boast a similar achievement is Jarosław Grzędowicz, who in 2005 received the double award for his best-selling novel Pan Lodowego Ogrodu. Volume 1”.

This year’s best novel is the Pamięć wszystkich słów. Opowieści z meekhańskiego pogranicza [The Memory of All Words. Stories from the Meekhan Marches] and a short story “Milczenie owcy” [Silence of the Lamb], which can be read in a free e-book, available at [H E R E].

Other novel writers, nominated for the “Best Novel” award were Rafał Cichowski, Jacek Dukaj, Magdalena Kozak, Paweł Majka and Marcin Przybyłek, with Dorota Dziedzic-Chojnacka, Magdalena Kucenty, Przemysław Zańko and - once again - Marcin Przybyłek competing for the “Best Short Story” title.

The Janusz A. Zajdel Award is an annual fantasy and science fiction award, given by the lovers of the genre to the authors of the best Polish literary works. The distinction has been given out since 1984, with Janusz A. Zajdel being its first ever recipient. After his death in 1985, the award was named after the writer, with the permission of his wife, Jadwiga Zajdel, in order to commemorate the author. Since 1991, the recipients of the award also receive a commemorative statuette, designed by Wiesław Bielak, professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow.
