YIDDISH AND LADINO

White Stork Synagogue / Synagoga Pod Białym Bocianem

A presentation of events which emphasise the significance of Yiddish and Ladino – languages of Jewish minorities in Europe. The project will encompass a conference, musical and language workshops, as well as concerts by Rosa Zaragoza, Bente Kahan, as well as Polish and Spanish artists.

8 May 2016 – "Yiddish and Ladino – songs carved in stone" concert, Centre for Jewish Culture and Education in the White Stork Synagogue, Włodkowica 5a, Wrocław.

Accompanying events:
5 May 2016 – "Sing with Us in Yiddish" concert, Centre for Jewish Culture and Education in the White Stork Synagogue, Włodkowica 5a, Wrocław.
8-9 May 2016 – "Yiddish and Ladino as Part of the European Experience: Contrast, Comparison, Contact" conference connected with a panel discussion with artists featured in the "Yiddish and Ladino – songs carved in stone" concert.
The event is organised in cooperation with the Department of Jewish Studies at University of Wrocław, as well as international scientific authorities and artists.
Detailed programme of the event:
8 May 2016, at 7:00 PM

"Yiddish and Ladino – songs carved in stone" – a concert of musicians, vocalists and dancers from Poland, Spain, Israel and the United States. The concert is organised as part of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016 celebrations.

The Bente Kahan Foundation has invited some outstanding artists, who will present the unknown and yet important part of the European cultural heritage in the White Stork Synagogue in Wrocław.
Accompanying events:
5 May 2016

"Sing with us in Yiddish" – children from Wrocław and Sighetu Marmatiei (Romania) will perform Yiddish songs, accompanied by Chudoba band.
8-9 May 2016

Conference "Yiddish and Ladino as Part of the European Experience: Contrast, Comparison, Contact” connected with a discussion panel with artists featured in the "Yiddish and Ladino – songs carved in stone" concert.

The event is carried out in cooperation with the Department of Jewish Studies at University of Wrocław, as well as international scientific authorities and artists.
